A Dual Gaze: Alice Springs x Helmut Newton

"A Dual Gaze: Alice Springs x Helmut Newton" is the first exhibition in Poland showcasing the joint legacy of one of the most fascinating couples in the world of photography – Helmut Newton and his wife June Newton, known since 1970 under the pseudonym Alice Springs. June began her career with portraiture and quickly developed her own distinctive style – marked by empathy, psychological depth, and an exceptional sense of light.

The exhibition is not only an artistic dialogue between two outstanding photographers, but also an intimate story of their 55-year partnership – in both life and art. It is a photographic narrative of a relationship where everyday life and creativity intertwine in a truly unique way. The exhibition includes personal portraits and self-portraits taken over decades, as well as a visual journey through the world of 20th-century art, fashion, and culture. Among the captured figures are icons of their time: Catherine Deneuve, Anjelica Huston, David Hockney, Timothy Leary, Peter Beard, Yves Saint Laurent, Thierry Mugler, Jane Birkin, or Charlotte Rampling.

Many of the portraits are presented in pairs – the same subjects seen through the eyes of both artists – revealing two complementary perspectives and a shared sensitivity. The exhibition highlights the inseparable bond between the Newtons’ life and art. One could not exist without the other.
