Upwards
In his authorial project Upwards, Michał Tomaszewski presents portraits of nature and mountain architecture — a solemn photographic phenomenon offering a unique representation where time and space find their place. The project was born out of a love for the mountains and analogue photography, created using the Polish START 66 camera. It invites us into a world where the image captivates and draws us toward a personal reflection on the experience of photography. Each photograph is the result of a demanding mountain expedition. Over the past four years, the artist has taken on numerous challenges in the Tatra and Karkonosze mountains, where intuition and determination proved just as important as the decisive moment and the weather conditions necessary to capture the beauty and mystery of the mountains.
Michał Tomaszewski specializes in fashion, portrait, and analog photography, in which he captures the Tatra Mountains using a Polish START 66 camera. For years, he has run his own photography studio in Bydgoszcz and has collaborated with the Fotografistka Foundation as part of the Vintage Photo Festival. His work has been published in over 50 renowned fashion magazines, including MOB, FLANELLE, HAUTE PUNCH, VOGUE, PUMP, 1723, and JUZI. He studied at the Academy of Photography under the guidance of fashion photographer Paweł Księżopolski, as well as at the art school of fashion photographer Sebastian Siębor. In recent years, he has also been strongly developing his painting talent under the mentorship of Bydgoszcz-based artist, MA in Fine Arts, Ewa Miller.
